Tips

Tips, tricks, and a bit of advice to help your team prepare for Hunt the Universe.

Here are some tips, tricks, and a bit of advice.

  1. About Clues…
    • Create a copy of the clue list, and highlight, underline, and bold any clues with a specified time and date. Make sure that you don’t miss these because you can’t make them up! (but make sure to continue checking the original document, as we may continue to make small changes during the Hunt itself. We’ll try to message updates to you)
    • The clues are very diverse, so make sure your team also has a diverse set of skills. LEARN NEW SKILLS. It’s pretty cool to come out of something this fun having learned something as useful as video editing etc. and there’s nothing like a deadline to help you do it.
  2. About Submission
    • Don’t leave the Slideshow for the last moment. Make sure you’re working on it over the course of the day.
    • Make Google Drive/Microsoft Teams Drive shared among your team members. Use it to work on the slideshow submission together and update each other on clue progress.
  3. About your Phones…
    • Team Captains: have your phone on you. There will be points throughout The Hunt where you will be texted with time sensitive information.
    • Make sure you’ve got a group chat going. That way you can send a text to all your members with any important or time sensitive information.
    • Keep your phone charger or battery pack on you. Constant texting and videography will drain your battery.
    • Always, ALWAYS turn the phone sideways. Or borrow a camera from a friend. They’re better quality than a phone camera, and the videos are easier to transfer and edit.
  4. About Vibes…
    • Don’t overthink – just do!
    • Be nice to the other teams – you never know when you might need their help (there is also something to be said for common decency and Details and Rules).
  5. About… Stuff… And where to put it
    • Possible packing list (you might not need all of this, but then again it’s always good to be prepared!):
Phone, laptop, camera, chargers, comfy shoes, blanket, stuffed animal, pajamas, snacks, clothing layers (check the weather!), a homemade dish (you can’t show up empty-handed!!), a water bottle, an assortment of toys/props/costumes/art supplies!
    • We’d love it if you could bring costumes/props/art materials to share! Raid your costume box, look around the house for some weird stuff, check the ol’ art box. We want to create a big bank of things at Hunt the Universe HQ that folks can draw from throughout the day to use in their answers. Please don’t bring anything you don’t mind losing, but also at the end of the day, please come back and pick up your stuff!
    • Set up a headquarters. A place your team can call home for the day. This could be a team member’s residence or a public space. We’ll also have some space at Hunt the Universe HQ that will be available for much of the day. We’ll send out a list of some HQ spot ideas closer to the date.
